Cameron Keon Sykes
Cameron Keon Sykes, also known as False Prophet, is a black Queens-born storyteller using art as his medium for self-expression and community uplift. He uses his skills in poetry, writing, and performance to connect with his community, bring awareness to the importance of prioritizing one’s mental health, and provide hope for voices like his who’ve gone unheard. Locally well-known for his ability with metaphor and imagery in his poetry, he paints pictures of a better future for himself and the community that got him where he is today. His lifetime goal is to turn this hard-won talent into a platform big enough to give back to the community and pave the way for others like himself.
An experienced and well-received Off-Broadway performer, Cameron has frequented many well-known venues and platforms throughout New York State, having featured at The Triad Theatre in Manhattan, The Parkside Lounge on the Lower East Side, Brooklyn Art Café in Bushwick, and many other venues throughout NYC. Through the 2020 -2021 pandemic lockdown, Cameron spent his efforts giving back to the artist community by hosting a virtual writing workshop, The Prophet Corner, providing a low-cost virtual space for creative expression and deep discussions on how artists can build their skills, their careers, and their connections to their work. Currently, Cameron is working toward his first debut book of poems, Moonlit Dreams (title pending), a poetic journey through healing from past traumas and mental health issues as a black man in America.
